The Covid-19 virus is clearly the biggest health and economic challenge of our lifetime. There is no doubt that the effects of state mandatory shutdowns for non-essentials businesses will negatively impact our trade volume. These are difficult times for everybody.
But the good news is many exchanges are staying positive and adopting innovative pro-active approaches to attack the issues head-on, such as:
- Focusing on the members who can work; take-out/delivery restaurants & caterers, auto repair/body work, landscapers, pressure washers, deck companies, website & graphic design, security systems, prints/radio advertising, answering services, employee benefit programs, legal/accounting services, etc.
- Using UC wherever possible to access goods and services that may not be in your local exchange.
- Using the downturn to try to get those companies that can still work to join your exchange – their receptivity is at an all-time high right now. Trade exchanges are a ready-made buying group eager to do business with new members.
