Nick’s unwavering determination and persistence are the driving forces behind his NFL and life successes. Despite being cut by 8 out of 11 NFL teams, he became the most accurate field goal kicker in NFL history!
Nick Lowery, (also known as “Nick the Kick”), had an 18-year career in the NFL. He received a BA from Dartmouth College and an MPA from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government – Nick is the first professional athlete to graduate from there. He signed with the New England Patriots as an un-drafted free agent in 1978. After spending one season with the Patriots, Nick then signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he spent 14 seasons. He finished his career with the New York Jets from 1994-1996. During his NFL career, Nick was an All-Pro seven times, a three-time Pro Bowl selection and a two-time First-Team All-Pro. He has set many records including most field goals all time with 384, most 50-yard field goals, most games with two or more 50-yarders, and longest field goal in the first quarter. In 2007, he was an NFL Hall of Fame nominee and in 2009 and has been inducted into the Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Fame. Nick also was a legislative aide to four U.S. Senators and three U.S. Presidents.
Nick’s philanthropic accomplishments are as impressive as his NFL career. The Nick Lowery Youth Foundation’s focus on education continually provides the next generation of creative leaders. Nick’s unprecedented charity work has been well recognized; he is a five-time NFL “Man of the Year,” recipient of the prestigious “NFLPA Award,” and the “Justice Byron Whizzer White Humanitarian Award.” In 2019 alone, he’s won the American Cancer Society’s “Pillar of Excellence Award,” the Arizona Interfaith Movement’s foremost Golden Rule Award, and the CNBC’s Stock Draft Championship.”
