The IRTA European Chapter was founded in 1996 when many European barter companies met in Scotland for the first time. Former IRTA Executive Director and Hall of Fame member, Paul Suplizio realized the importance for IRTA representation in Europe.
Since 1996 IRTA Europe has held several annual meetings all throughout the continent including: Belgium, England, France, Germany, Iceland, Sardinia, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Scotland, Slovakia, Ukraine, The Czech Republic and Turkey. These meetings allow European barter companies to share their successes by which they agree to maintain all in accordance to the IRTA Code of Ethics.

The European group had two meetings in 2009 in Europe. The first was in Kragero, Norway from June 5th thru 7th. Please see the IRTA News portion of the website for a report on the successful Norway conference. The second European meeting ttok place on December 3rd & 4th, 2009 in Iatanbul, Turkey and was hosted by Sirri Simsek and Turk Barter. IRTA's founder, Paul Suplizio lead this important, and very successful meeting. Eleven European companies were represented at the Istanbul conference.
A Paris meeting took place in May of 2010 and the IRTA European members formed a new European Chapter at the Pittsburgh IRTA Convention on October 30, 2010. The application for the new Euro Chapter was submitted to the IRTA Global board, pursuant to the guidleines of the IRTA Global Bylaws, and approved unanimously by the IRTA Global board. IRTA Europe now has a new European Chapter in place.
