Commercial Barter Facts:

  • Commercial barter may also be referred to as "Retail Barter"

  • A Commercial Barter Exchange is defined as a company that
performs as a third party record keeper to facilitate transactions
among members of the exchange using a non-cash currency
called a trade credit. The barter company may be a member of
the exchange, using the exchange currency to buy and sell
goods and services on its own account.

  • Commercial barter exchanges typically employ trade brokers.
Trade brokers communicate information between members to
facilitate trades. For example, a broker will put a member who
is looking to purchase auto repair in touch with a member who
    they know provides auto repair.
